The city plans to start training workers on how to remove lead lines next week. The grants were announced Thursday during a visit to Flint by Sylvia Burwell, head of the U.S. Flint residents didn't have to pay the highest water bill for too long because in August 2015, a state judge ordered the city to roll back water and sewer rates by 35% and end a monthly service charge that generated $900,000 systemwide, according to Food & Water Watch and and the attorney for residents who filed two ... Separately, Snyder is pushing $165 million in additional spending for lead pipe replacement, bottled water, filters, health care and other services. The new funding would pay for pipe replacement in several hundred homes, but the Flint City Council and the city's chief financial officer still have to take action to receive the grant funding. The illegal discharge violation carries a fine of up to $1,000 a day for each day of the leak, which began in October and continued for about four months, until the gas flow was halted last week. "Stopping the leak is only the first stage of recovery". They have been on site since late January and have unfettered access to the well sites and all documents and material, including the ruptured well casing from which the gas was leaking. (more...)

The surprise announcement, carried by the Saudi SPA agency, also described the Lebanese stance as "regrettable and unjustified" and "inconsistent with the fraternal relations between the two countries". As we all know, Lee didn't publish another novel for 55 years and then came out with a prequel, Go Set a Watchman , in 2015, throwing her readers and the publishing world into a quandary. (more...)

Last week Weaver outlined an estimated $55 million public works project that aims to remove and replace all of Flint's residential lead service lines as quickly as possible, with priority given to high-risk households. Rep. Sheldon Neeley, D-Flint, offered an amendment to double the figure to $60 million during the House session Wednesday. The protestors plan to display an ice sculpture dyed brown to resemble dirty water with the words "Snyder poisoned Flint". "I think it would be a mistake to base the question whether we invest in clean water for somebody's home based on whether that property has a particular value on this particular day". (more...)
