Futures traders are now pricing in a 12-percent chance of a rate increase this month, down from 15 percent on Wednesday, according to the CME Group's FedWatch tool . An appropriate policy mix, including reforms in the labour market and a fiscal plan, would increase monetary policy effectiveness. The euro edged down slightly to $1.1242, and also slipped 0.2 percent against its Japanese counterpart to 114.98 yen. (more...)

However, Obama has warned that by allowing families of 9/11 victims to take that country's government to court, the bill would open up the possibility of other countries doing the same to Washington. While Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said members are close to a deal, all but two of 23 analysts surveyed predict an agreement to limit production is unlikely. Preliminary data showed the world's second largest oil consumer imported 32.85 million tons of crude last month. OPEC's gathering on September 27 in Algiers will be a "meeting of consultation and not of decision-making", unlike the group's meeting in Oran, Algeria, in 2008, when it agreed to cut production, Barkindo said ... In a statement, the FOMC said the labour market had "continued to strengthen" and economic activity had improved from the "modest pace" set in the first half. That's where it's been since last December when the Fed lifted the rate a quarter of a point from near zero. The Fed's next meeting is in November, concluding six days before the United States presidential election, but the Fed is widely expected to defer any decisions until its final meeting of the year in mid-December. The dashboard camera footage opens with a police auto pulling up as two officers point their guns at Scott, who is inside the SUV with the doors closed and windows rolled up. He described the police videos as supporting other evidence, rather than being standalone proof. Charlotte is the latest USA city to be shaken by protests and recriminations over the death of a black man at the hands of police, a list that includes Baltimore, Milwaukee, Chicago, New York and Ferguson, Miss. In its previous forecast in June, the Fed had downgraded its expectations for 2016 growth from 2.2 percent to 2 percent. Officials were looking for links between the bombs in Elizabeth and NY, as well as a Saturday bombing in Seaside Park, New Jersey , along a race route, and a stabbing that wounded nine people on Sunday at a mall in St. Trains resumed Monday morning after the New Jersey Transit suspended service going through Elizabeth station on Sunday night. For what it's worth, most analysts aren't getting their hopes up. Prices rose as high as $47.62 a barrel this month as OPEC officials conducted meetings from Vienna to Paris to Moscow in attempts to reach consensus. However, Helima Croft, the global head of commodity strategy at RBC Capital Markets is more optimistic. The first mention of a possible agreement surfaced earlier in the summer and helped push crude oil prices briefly above $50 per barrel. (more...)
