Fed keeps rates steady, signals one hike by end of year

It has been at that level since last December, when officials chose to raise the rate for the first time since the financial crisis. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan extended gains to 1.2 percent in its sixth straight session of increases, just 0.9 percent shy of its one-year high touched earlier this month. Drivers deal with higher gas prices as Alabama pipeline repairs continue

The Colonial Pipeline leak in Alabama has been repaired and officials say that the flow of gas and other refined products will return to normal in just a few days. Colonial has yet to fix the broken pipe, but the 500-foot bypass will let the gasoline flow until the pipe is repaired. AAA Auto Club reported Georgia average gas prices rose to $2.26, a rise of 16 cents per gallon from a week ago. (more...)

This news couldn't come at a worse time for Yahoo, which is set to sell its core businesses - which are at the crux of the cyber attack - for $4.8 billion to Verizon. That could happen if users shun Yahoo or file lawsuits because they're incensed by the theft of their personal information. The share of homes purchased in British Columbia by foreign buyers decreased as of the end of August, data from the provincial government showed on Thursday, suggesting a new tax in the city of Vancouver was discouraging overseas buyers. That was down from 8.4 per cent between June 10 and Aug 1, the last data released by the government. The data indicates foreigners were buying fewer, cheaper properties and with less of a share in the sales. (more...)
