Walmart awards cash bonuses to nearly a million workers

The retailer indicated the evolved incentive plan was meant to reward associates if their stores met performance criteria beyond the customer service goals. Walmart has about 4,600 stores and 1.5 million employees in the U.S. That includes employees outside stores, like truck drivers and distribution center workers, and employees of Sam's Club. (more...)

Department of Transportation issued its regulatory guidelines for self-driving cars, in an attempt to help automakers prepare for the transition to driverless vehicles. Though companies are not required to follow the guidance - it is voluntary and does not carry the force of formal regulation - Foxx said he expects compliance. (more...)

U.S. crude oil inventories registered a large fall in the latest week, alongside a large drop in some product stockpiles. American Petroleum Institute's (API) weekly crude stocks data, revealed a 7.5 million barrel fall to 507.2 million barrels in US crude inventories, while analysts expected a growth of approximately 2.3 million barrels. Overdose deaths from prescription painkillers have soared nationwide since 2000, although they have decreased slightly in Mississippi. The drugmakers told the AP and the center they don't take policy positions, and have been trying have a positive impact on the crisis through steps such as designing opioids which are harder to abuse, and supporting state-level databases meant to stop "doctor-shopping" by addicts seeking to find doctors to supply them. Although Duchenne muscular dystrophy primarily affects boys, it can in rare cases also affect girls. "Patients with a particular type of Duchenne muscular dystrophy will now have access to an approved treatment for this rare and devastating disease", Janet Woodcock, MD , director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Researcher, said in a press release. Donations and supplies are sent to Standing Rock. Federal government agencies intervened last week after a district court ruled in favor of the pipeline construction, calling for a temporary halt to construction on parts of the pipeline until the Army Corps of Engineers can determine a full range of ... Deutsche Bank had 5.5 billion euros set aside for litigation costs, with a further €1.7bn held as unreserved contingent litigation liabilities, but it does not spell out exactly what that sum is for. Japanese bank stocks were hit Wednesday by a Nikkei report which said that the BOJ was considering an interest-rate cut at next week's policy meeting, taking rates deeper into the negative territory.
