Phoenix CEO Clive Bannister told Reuters in August that the company was scouting for acquisitions to help gain scale in a challenging, low interest rate environment after Brexit. Abbey Life, which was bought by Deutsche Bank for 977 million pounds in 2007, is valued at about 1 billion pounds, sources told Reuters in June. (more...)

The comments solidified the view the USA central bank would leave its rates unchanged after next week's policy meeting. The Fed's "quiet period" begins Tuesday, ahead of the September 20-21 meeting of its policy makers. Mr Steiner said the market remains "very competitive" and that sustained margin pressure was unlikely to change in the short term. This recall involves the Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone sold before September 15, 2016. So far, 92 reports of batteries overheating have been received, including 26 reports of burns and 55 of property damage from fires. Samsung could have avoided such a massive recall, if only the Galaxy Note 7 had removable batteries. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was recalled after it wears discovered that the device can cause an explosion due to the battery's flaw. (more...)

Amateur photographer Ian Bremner , 58, was driving around the Highlands in search of red deer - but stumbled instead across the remarkable sight of what appears to be Nessie swimming in the calm waters of Loch Ness. Seals or Loch Ness Monsters? And in 1935, renowned big game hunter Marmaduke Wetherell found a footprint he said was the monster's. Some are suggesting that the new photo may even conclusively prove the beast's existence. (more...)

The increase will be welcomed by breakbulk operators that have seen oilfield services revenues fall sharply in the past year as low oil prices have meant lower demand for project cargo. State-wise, Oklahoma gained three rigs, while Alaska added one rig. The average Canadian rig count for August 2016 was 129, up 35 from the 94 counted in July 2016. (more...)

He was convicted of a first-degree sex offense in 1996, according to the registry, and his victim was 6 years old . Officials said he gave them a battery-operated saw and they cut the girl free. Public record indicates that the suspect in the abduction of the North Carolina 6-year-old was released on May 5, 2012. A witness told the station WECT police officers flagged him down as he was driving to work along River Road and asked him if he had any bolt cutters they could borrow. (more...)

Medical care services are up 5.1 per cent, the biggest increase for any of the major categories.
