South Korea: Hanjin to resume work in Long Beach this week

The company announced a 2.5 trillion won streamlining plan in December 2013 that included asset sales and cost reductions, and its earnings improved temporarily. Hanjin Shipping was handling almost 8% by volume of trans-Pacific trade for the U.S. market, and with its container ships marooned offshore, major retailers have been scrambling to devise contingency plans to get their merchandise into stores. Law firm Quinn Emanuel said the lawsuit was the largest damages claim in British history and would be brought under a law meaning consumers would automatically be claimants unless they opt out. It is alleged these fees were passed on to shoppers through higher prices. Under the 2015 Consumer Rights Act, customers living in the United Kingdom would automatically be included in the claim for damages and ultimately, if successful, be eligible for compensation. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. HRT said nine new buses are expected to cost about $4 million and that the award is appreciated because the agency's capital improvements program did not include new bus purchases. All of the new purchases will replace current CARTA Express commuter buses. Specifically, this competitive funding will be used to replace buses that operate in rural areas and have reached the end of their useful life. (more...)

The South Korean measurement would indicate a yield slightly smaller than the Little Boy at 10 kilotonnes, although calculating yield is hard and subject to the unknown variables in terrain and geology of the test site. According to Reuters , the addition of the HPE products will catapult "the little-known British firm into the top tier of European tech companies".
