Gas prices stay low for Labor Day

Today's national average price of $2.22 per gallon is an increase of one penny per gallon compared to one week ago, nine cents per gallon compared to one month ago but 23 cents less than past year. Now, with the usual drop in gasoline consumption following the Labor Day holiday, drivers can expect to prices decline. A strong dollar, coupled with concerns that the Federal Reserve may increase interest rates, has also caused prices to spike upwards to $2.24 a gallon going into Labor Day-still, ... (more...)

A points-based immigration system championed by Brexit campaigners has been dismissed by Theresa May, who said it was "not a silver bullet" to reducing the number of people coming to the UK. Koji Tsuruoka told the BBC hundreds of Japanese companies had operations in the United Kingdom, adding: "They are companies responsible to their stakeholders and their duty is to produce profit". The weather service said Hermine's current maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour would probably reach 75 mph - classifying it again as a category-one hurricane - between now and Tuesday morning, September 6. Coastal flooding may continue into Tuesday . Despite the tropical storm not making landfall on New York City, it could still hit it with high winds and the public beaches remained closed on Labor Day. (more...)

A petition calling for the Government to hold a second poll as the turnout on June 23 was below 75% and fewer than 60% of the vote backed Brexit has received 4.1 million signatures, although it was subject to claims it had been hacked. The report also urged Britain and the European Union to make the Brexit negotiation process transparent to avoid "unpleasant surprises". On Monday, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in China, Russia and Saudi Arabia , which control more than 21% of global oil consumption, signed a joined statement on measures to stabilize the oil market. There are other potential explanations, less tied to market minutiae. Saudi Arabia and Russian Federation, along with other OPEC and non-OPEC producers, are scheduled to hold talks in Algiers on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum due to be held from 26 to 28 September. Post-Tropical Storm Hermine finally reached Southern New England after days of forecasters trying to decide what the impact would be. As Rosetta's solar arrays can not collect enough power to guarantee the spacecraft's heaters will keep it warm enough to survive, Rosetta will follow its Philae lander to the surface of the comet. "It is incredible that we have captured this at the final hour ". "Now that the lander search is finished we feel ready for Rosetta's landing, and look forward to capturing even closer images of Rosetta's touchdown site", said Holger Sierks, the principal investigator of the OSIRIS camera.
