The IMF is not the only worldwide organization that has raised its forecast for China. While forecasting a global contraction this year, after 2.8 per cent growth in 2019, the International Monetary Fund predicts a rebound to global growth of 5.2 per cent next year, 0.2 percentage point lower than in its June forecast. Its vaccine is in late stage trials in Brazil, Indonesia and Turkey, and the company has said that an interim analysis of Phase 3 trial data could come as early as November. "First, the vaccine must be proven effective, meaning it can help prevent COVID-19 disease in at least a majority of vaccinated patients". While vaccines are a crucial tool against the virus, experts have warned they can't be a substitute for behavioral measures like masks and social distancing to curb transmission. (more...)

The Department has distributed $16.5 billion in unemployment benefits since COVID-19 idled a significant portion of the state's workforce in mid-March, including $278 million last week alone. A $600-a-week federal benefit expired over the summer. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Thursday told CNBC the Trump administration is not giving up on economic relief and he'll keep up negotiations, but he once again cast doubt on any deal coming together before Election Day. Brent crude futures were down $0.28 or 0.7% to $43.04 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate ( WTI ) futures fell by $0.24 or 0.6%, touching $40.80, Reuters reported. OPEC+ - producers from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and others including Russian Federation - have been reducing output since January 2017 in a bid to balance the market, support prices and reduce inventories. While the program has ignited interest among Ikea lovers, not all of the company's furniture products will be eligible for it. Trump said Thursday that he did still think a deal is possible before November 3 - "because I think there's a lot of pressure on Pelosi".
