Supply glut pushes oil prices to 11-year low

While consumers have enjoyed lower fuel prices, the world's richest oil exporters have been forced to revalue their currencies, sell off assets and even issue debt for the first time in years as they struggle to fix their finances. Iran will add to global supply when it resumes shipments next year after the lifting of worldwide sanctions, while a peace deal in Libya could lead to higher exports. (more...)

KaloBios Fires Embattled Pharmaceutical Executive Martin Shkreli

Shkreli became CEO of KaloBios on November 19th after acquiring 70 percent of the company's outstanding shares. He has already resigned as head of the company which made the drug, Turing Pharmaceuticals . Shkreli has said he does not believe the federal charges against him, which include seven counts related to charges of securities fraud. Shares soared that on news of his investment, but plunged 50% Thursday in premarket trading on reports of Shkreli's arrest. (more...)

The decision comes after the much-criticized pharmaceutical executive was arrested Thursday on charges of security fraud related to another drug company where he had previously served as chief executive. The drug developer said on Monday that Tony Chase, who was appointed to the company's board along with Shkreli, had also resigned. When the options were limited to the "Top Five" in national polling, Trump's support increases to 32 percent, while Cruz' jumps to 24 percent. Marco Rubio of Florida has 12 percent and Dr. Trump has 28 percent of the GOP pack, with Sen. Both Cruz and Rubio fare better than Trump in general election match-ups. Interestingly, 51 percent have also said they would rather vote for Bernie Sanders if the presidential race came down to him and Trump. (more...)

Their last pre-debate poll showed Trump at 27 percent, Rubio at 17 percent and Carson and Cruz both at 16 percent. Shkreli became that firm's chief executive in November after saving it from impending bankruptcy with a almost $2 million investment. Shkreli will be replaced by Turing's board chairman Ron Tilles, who will serve as interim CEO until a permanent chief is installed. (more...)

Since his arrest on December 17, Shkreli has formally resigned from his position as the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals and has also been fired from his position as CEO of KaloBios Pharmaceuticals . The now former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals , who has proclaimed his innocence on Twitter, described his arrest to the Journal as a "real injustice" and "definitely not something I deserve given the facts". Brent crude slumped to the lowest price since mid-2004 amid speculation suppliers from the Middle East to the USA will exacerbate a record glut as they fight for market share. Prices are still down 46 cents from their last settlement. Russian production has hit a post-Soviet record and the number of rigs deployed in the USA rose for the first time in five weeks last week by 17 to 541, according to industry figures supplied by the driller Baker Hughes.
