David Chapman, official receiver, said: "I am pleased to announce we have reached an agreement with Hays Travel to acquire Thomas Cook's entire United Kingdom retail estate, comprising 555 stores across the country". Mr Tucker said the administrators would work with Hays to "ensure a smooth transition of the store estate". Meanwhile, the company will consider the future of under-performing shops in places where Hays and Thomas Cook sites overlap. (more...)

Countries such as France have been pushing for stricter rules that would force the tech giants to pay more tax . Researchers found that the additional tax recovered from corporate tax havens would mainly benefit the richest countries.The findings indicate that while there will be a 5% fall in profits booked in tax havens, around 80% of the redistributed profits will go to high income countries. This is not a formal return to quantitative easing (QE) policy, but could be viewed as a half-step measure in that direction. Other recent economic data, including a possible contraction in manufacturing, add to the sense of reduced momentum. Dick's Sporting Goods stopped selling AR-15 (or what they like to refer to as "assault weapons") and "high capacity magazines" following the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida. Just a day before that shooting, a gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, killing 22 people and injuring 24 others. Even though it wasn't the weapon used in the shooting , that largely impacted the company's actions. (more...)
