The New Zealand dollar tumbled after Federal Reserve vice chairman Stanley Fischer indicated September was still a possibility for a rate hike, although dependent on upcoming economic data. The markets reaction to the statements varies, because the optimism contained in the statements does not echo the present economic realities. Central bankers aren't retreating from the fight against low inflation, although they're wary of launching a fresh assault on any daring new fronts. (more...)

For those of you homebound, Google has created a pretty awesome virtual tour of five national parks: Kenai Fjords National Park, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Dry Tortugas National Park (check out the below embedded video). The entire peninsula became a national park in 1974 when the fort, which was known as Sandy Hook Proving Ground and later Fort Hancock, was deactivated and the state park reverted to the federal government. "When I think of national parks, I think of forests so guess I will partake in the national parks celebration", said MA resident Tim Daost. The Fed chair, however, added that FOMC decisions would always depend on incoming data and hence its perception of increasing rates could change in the future. About 40,000 homes have been affected by the flooding, Edwards said. A flood damaged tomb is covered for fix at the cemetery of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in Walker, Louisiana. Edwards said there were still some 34,000 households and businesses without electricity in torrid summer heat and humidity - raising concerns of mould in waterlogged buildings. (more...)
