The storm, which complicated travel and busted plans for the three-day weekend across much of the country, caused problems from Kansas, where the governor declared an emergency, to New England, where forecasters predicted up to two feet of snow and warned of avalanches. Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu has given nod to make required changes, especially Section 56 (2) (viib) of the Income Tax Act clause, and make allowances for angel investors, said a PTI report quoting sources . The new procedure does away with the earlier procedure of applying to an inter-ministerial board of certification for approval. Of the total number of assessees who filed income tax returns a year ago, only around 1.5 lakh assessees mentioned an annual income of more than Rs 50 ... (more...)

Typically fewer than a thousand former federal employees apply for jobless benefits each week. Anyone who did get unemployment and ended getting back pay will have to repay the benefits received. The Labor Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A large portion of the federal workforce has stayed home from work for the past three weeks as the White House and Congress battle over a funding bill. (more...)

The bills specifically cite ZTE and Huawei, both of which are viewed with suspicion in the United States because of fears that their switches and other gear could be used to spy on Americans.
