GST Council Meeting Highlights

According to the finance minister, 0.5 or 1 per cent of the total 1,200-odd items including luxury items such as big cars, aircraft and demerit goods (such as cigarettes) will continue to remain in the 28 per cent slab. This will have a revenue implication of Rs. 900 crore. "There is no GST cut on cement and auto parts", he said. However, for tickets above Rs 100, GST has been reduced to 18 percent. (more...)

The CBDT said the committee will make recommendations on individual cases of recognised startups to the DIPP on issues pertaining to tax exemptions for such ventures. Sharad Sharma, co-founder of iSPIRT Foundation seconded this. An angel investor is the one who funds a start-up when it is taking baby steps to establish itself in the competitive market. (more...)

It's no coincidence that July 5th is the busiest shelter day of the year in the United States, as lost dogs who bolted during thunderous fireworks shows are brought into shelters. Given their heightened sense of hearing, most pets do not enjoy fireworks as it stresses them out and makes them uncomfortable. This futuristic-looking kennel is made out of sound-dampening cork and fitted with noise-canceling technology and an automatic door, which should make any pet owner perk up their ears. (more...)

If the damage is bad enough, the cable splice connector can cause a short which can make the engine block heater fail. The recall covers several years of F150 and Super Duty trucks including 2015 through 2019 Ford F150 Trucks, along with the 2017 through 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty, F450 Super Duty and F550 Super Duty pickup trucks. Officials at the USA central bank on Wednesday voted to lift the Fed's key interest rate by 0.25 per cent, to a target range of 2.25-2.5 per cent, the BBC reported. Relative to their size, they also tend to carry more debt than larger companies, which could be a problem in a slower economy with higher interest rates. (more...)

They could still take further legal steps in a bid to allow them to investigate Ghosn and co-defendant and former Nissan executive Greg Kelly longer. The lawyer has previously declined to return calls for comment on the Ghosn case. Nissan and Mitsubishi both sacked Mr Ghosn as chairman after his arrest last month. The court did not disclose reasons for its decision, and NHK said it was "extremely rare" for it to reject the prosecutors' request to extend detention. (more...)

The outcome would temporarily break an impasse that threatened to close large portions of the government this weekend and send hundreds of thousands of federal workers home without pay just before Christmas. Trump has still not indicated if he will compromise with lawmakers to keep the government operating. As some Republicans grumbled that Trump caved , McConnell lashed out at Democrats for failing to give Trump any of the $5 billion that he wanted for the wall. (more...)
