China will now suspend 25% tariffs on 144 USA vehicles and auto part items and 5% tariffs on 67 auto items between 1 January and 31 March, the finance ministry said. US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer is leading talks to reach a deal on "structural changes" to China's economy by March 1. The Chinese government could also be easing tariffs in response to domestic concerns. (more...)

The suit is the latest twist to a bitter legal fight between Ghosn and Nissan over the contents of a beachfront apartment that the former executive used during his trips to Brazil. Following a board meeting on Thursday, Renault revealed that preliminary conclusions of an ongoing investigation suggested that Ghosn's compensation approval was "in compliance with applicable law" and that it would "maintain the current governance measures". At the heart of the volatility are worries about trade-related tensions between the USA and China and slowing economic growth in China. Although it seems a bit odd for a vital organ to be transported on a commercial flight, the Times reports that Southwest does work with companies that ship organs for transplants - as well as transporting human remains - but it accounts for very little of its total revenue.
