Australia jobless rate ticked lower in May, full-time jobs slump

On a trend basis, the jobless rate remained steady on 5.5% and 16,000 new jobs were created - a lot of them part time as full time job creation continued to slow. The trend participation rate decreased by less than 0.1 per cent to 65.5 per cent in May 2018, after the April figure was revised down. However, in the Seattle/Bellevue/Everett region, the labor force decreased by 1,700 over the same period. (more...)

American Airlines said a technical glitch caused flights to be canceled yesterday. "Our team members are focused on taking care of our customers by accommodating them on mainline flights or other regional carriers". Overall, the outage has affected about 4 percent of American's global flight operations, mostly shorter routes from the carrier's hub in Charlotte, according to news reports . (more...)

No deaths have been reported in connection with Honey Smacks , but the FDA says it's "working with the company to quickly remove this cereal from the marketplace". Other producers are also increasing output. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA), which defines it as production that can be brought online for 30 days and sustained for at least 90 days, put OPEC's spare capacity at 1.91 million bpd in the first quarter.
