According to The Detroit News, around 10:15 a.m.in Detroit, Michigan, the 91-year-old man parked and exited his vehicle. At that moment, the 91-year-old announced to other man that he held a concealed pistol license. Police said the younger man was acting in an erratic manner, but didn't describe his specific behavior. His condition is not known, but he is responsive, according to investigators. (more...)

The flooding in Louisiana is being called the worst natural disaster to hit the United States since Superstorm Sandy. The Nasdaq hit a record intraday high on Tuesday, with the overall gain in US stocks led by technology and financial companies, as investors weighed the prospect of an interest rate hike this year. The biggest mover among developed-world currencies on Tuesday was the New Zealand dollar, which rose as much as 1 percent to US$0.7340 after Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Graeme Wheeler said he did not see the need for a rapid succession of interest rate cuts. The Wolfsburg, Germany-based manufacturer has responded to the crisis stemming from the emissions cheating with a far-reaching push to lift sales and profit at its namesake VW brand. Olaf Lies, the economy minister of the state of Lower Saxony, where VW is based, and a member of the company's supervisory board, has said that the dispute had hit VW at the worst possible time.
