After liftoff from near zero in December, officials have twice cut their projections for the path of rates this year, as improving US economic data contrast with signs of slowing growth overseas. The benchmark 10-year note yielded 1.54 percent. The UK's FTSE 100 index slid 0.5 percent, France's CAC 40 index retreated 1 percent, while Germany's DAX index fell 1.3 percent. (more...)

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude's front-month contract, September, closed down $1.47, or 3 percent, at $47.05 before expiring. Net sales grew 0.1 percent from a year ago to $119.41 billion, while membership and other income climbed 61.2 percent to $1.45 billion. Sales were up 0.5 percent at $120.9 billion. Wal-Mart's online business grew 12 percent last quarter, an acceleration from the previous period. He said in March that he no longer needs cancer treatment. "A year ago, I didn't think I was going to live for two or three weeks", Carter said Monday. Carter said that a year ago, doctors had removed part of his liver and had found four places in his brain where he had cancer. At the same time, "I felt that I was thankful, because I've had a remarkably successful life", he said. (more...)

Target on Friday announced that it was ending all business with Welspun India after it discovered last month that 750,000 sheets and pillowcases labeled as Egyptian cotton were actually made with another type of cotton. In a filing it said, "We have initiated actions to investigate the root cause". The textile maker-and its shareholders-have reason to be anxious because it has a huge exposure to the U.S. (more...)

Fiona remains over open waters and is not now a threat to land. As of Thursday afternoon, Tropical Storm Fiona was located around 950 nautical miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. But forecasters say the storm is no threat to anywhere except to Bermuda. Another tropical wave rolling off the coast of Africa has a low potential of development over the next five days. (more...)

Hopefully, allowing the Redskins to get that close to the end zone on the game's first drive is not midseason form for the rest of the defense.
