Speedo says it is donating $50,000 from Lochte's sponsorship fee to the global charity Save the Children for children in Brazil. Speedo says that while it had "a winning relationship with Ryan for over a decade and he has been an important member of the Speedo team", it could not condone his behavior after the end of Rio's swimming competition. The opposition Labour Party accused the government of failing to help resolve the dispute because of an anti-union agenda but Prime Minister Theresa May's spokeswoman said the strike would not solve anything. The union believes safety would be affected if the role of conductors is changed, especially with the relentless rise in passenger numbers. Train drivers working for Southern and Thameslink are being balloted for strike action which could take place in September. (more...)
Pfizer buying Medivation in deal valued at about $14B

Some analysts, including BMO's Alex Arfaei , said Pfizer appeared to be overpaying for Medivation. Medivation is a specialty drugmaker, focused on developing medicines for cancer and serious diseases with few treatment options. There has been a push from Wall Street for the drugmaker to break itself up into smaller companies so that it can grow faster. While hesitant, Pfizer has promised to decide the issue by the end of this year. (more...)

Oil prices rose about 1 percent on Thursday after the International Energy Agency forecast crude markets would rebalance in the next few months following several years of heavy overproduction. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries increased the global oil demand outlook by 30,000 barrels a day, the OPEC said in the Monthly Oil Market Report released on Wednesday. (more...)

"If it's a threat to the Yellowstone River trout population, we support it, but I hope it doesn't last too long", Wiese said. Hatchfinders Fly Shop Owner Dandy Reiner said her shop will be impacted in sales of flies and tackle, but since her shop does not do many tours, the impact should be minimal. (more...)

According to the CFPB, Wells Fargo's Educational Financial Services division, which is in charge of the bank's private student loan servicing, now has 1.3 million consumers in 50 states. The CFPB found that Wells Fargo was charging late fees even if a payment was made on the last day of a payment period. Wells Fargo used some of whatever payment borrowers were making to cover "late fees" instead of applying it to the account. (more...)
