Asda reported a 5.8 per cent decline over Christmas, which had been its worst ever quarterly performance. An employee of software firm Sage has been apprehended by police in London following a breach last week in which it is believed the personal information of between 200-300 of the company's customers in the United Kingdom was stolen. Thomas Fischer, threat researcher and global security advocate at Digital Guardian, laid the blame squarely at Sage's door, and suggested that the company's security was inadequate. (more...)

The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for jobless benefits dropped 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 262,000 for the week ended August 13. "In Michigan, we lost 766,000 jobs between 2001 and 2010", Gov. Rick Snyder said in a statement Wednesday. There was nothing unusual in the overall figures, and one state, Vermont, had estimated jobless claims, according to the Labor Department. (more...)

Valeant is also reportedly under a criminal fraud investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office in NY over its activities with mail-order pharmacy Philidor Rx Services. The fund says in the suit that Valeant's secret network of pharmacies used deceptive practices to sell drugs, then hid the source of these ill-gotten gains with accounting. (more...)

The manufacturer has been clear in its aim not to sell its electric offerings at a loss, and it's thought this ethos will continue for the Model E , with a spokesperson adding that it will be realistically priced.
