It is also possible a lower rate could encourage companies from overseas to come to the USA, companies attracted to our capital or consumer markets but who have chosen to stay away because of our tax rate. It is unlikely that the agenda of President Trump will make it through a divided Congress. That mortgage-interest deduction has been in the IRS tax codes since the income tax began in 1913. (more...)

There have now been 522,000 jobs added in Trump's firs three full months in office. Those jobs have climbed steadily since last fall and are now at a 27-month high. "The American job machine returned to form in April", James Marple, senior economist at TD Economics, wrote in a note to clients. The labor force participation rate, at 62.9 percent, changed little in April and has shown little movement over the past year. (more...)

Google reported earnings of $7.73 per share with their revenue up by 22% to $24.75 billion for the period that ended this March 31. In addition, traffic acquisition payments (TAC) continue to rise due to mobile ad revenue-sharing payments to smartphone OEMs, carriers and developers: TAC was equal to 10% of Google properties ad revenue, up from 8% a year ago, and 22% of total ad revenue. The USDA will also grant exemptions from the current requirement for schools to serve only whole-grain-rich foods.
