Industrial production had been expected to grow 6.1%, according to a Reuters poll of analysts. July retail sales grew 10.2% year-on-year, but that was slightly below expectations of a 10.5% increase in a Reuters poll. The pace was slower than the 6.2% growth recorded in. China's exports and imports fell more than expected in July in a rocky start to the third quarter, pointing to further weakness in global demand in the aftermath of Britain's decision to leave the European Union. Futures on Thursday rose $1.78 to settle at $43.49. A weak U.S. dollar also underpinned the energy markets on Friday, as traders reacted to disappointing economic data. Global oil supply rose by 150m bpd in July to 33.39m bpd, as Saudi Arabia increased its output to its highest level ever and Iraq also increased production. (more...)

Walmart started selling the prepackaged, frozen Hostess products on Thursday at some of its stores, and it plans to roll them out nationwide by August 16, according to a Walmart spokesman. US crude oil extended its gains Friday, rising 2.3%, to $44.49 a barrel, one day after Saudi Arabia's energy minister said the country would work with other oil producers to stabilize prices. Still, easing policies of central banks overseas are sending yield-seeking investors to the U.S. Thursday's 30-year sale drew a yield of 2.274 percent, the second-lowest on record, after last month's auction saw a record-low 2.172 percent yield.
