Spot gold was up 0.3 per cent at $US1,361.14 an ounce by 3:00 p.m. EDT (0500 AEST), off an earlier low of $US1,348.50, while US gold futures for December delivery settled up 0.2 per cent at $US1,367.40. The pound fell by 1% against the dollar following the Bank's announcement. The Australian dollar hovered near a 3-week high of $0.7641, awaiting the Reserve Bank of Australia's monetary policy statement due later in the day. (more...)

Brent LCOc1 futures for October delivery rose 45 cents to $44.50 a barrel, a 1 percent gain, by 9:40 a.m. ET (1340 GMT). To which an unnamed Canadian refinery executive added, "No one consumes crude, they consume products; until we see those inventories come down, it will be real hard for crude to have a strong rally again". The Arab country had sought a $12 billion loan over three years. Saudi stocks slipped although the Capital Market Authority said late on Wednesday it would relax curbs on foreign institutional investors on September 4, sooner than the mid-2017 deadline previously indicated. Still, he said, any cooperation between the two would nearly certainly be temporary. Outside of Saudi Arabia and Iran, Kuwait continues to aggressively target the Asian market and is offering a discount of $2.65 a barrel for Asian clients, marking a deeper discount than the $1.70 a barrel it offered back in August.
