Traditionally, rockets are scrapped after only one flight - but SpaceX has now achieved one of its long-term goals in successfully reusing one. Tonight's launch is scheduled to go off at 6:27 p.m. On their website , SpaceX explains: "The majority of the launch cost comes from building the rocket, which flies only once". The satellite was launched into an initial elliptical orbit ranging 135 miles to 22,002 miles above the Earth's surface. (more...)

California drivers will pay more to drive in the state under a bill the Legislature passed Thursday to raise $52 billion from new taxes and fees to fix roads and bridges. Electric auto owners get hit with a special $100 tax, since they don't use gasoline. The transportation funding package will provide cities and counties with significant annual revenue streams to make local infrastructure improvements like rebuilding and paving local roads and streets and bridge fix.
