In a statement , Greenpeace USA Executive Director Annie Leonard said the group would do "everything it can" to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline from coming to fruition. It re-applied with the Nebraska Public Service Commission this year. Environmentalists , American Indian groups and landowners who've opposed the pipeline expressed anger, and Greenpeace said the USA was "moving backwards" on climate and energy policy. (more...)

In Russia, private oil producers are ditching their skepticism and lining up behind an extension of output cuts after previous oil price increases compensated for lost income. While Saudi's output is still lower than its target, a rebound in its production dented sentiment in the oil market. What the crude import numbers from China and India for the first two months show is that by and large the top producers seem reluctant to cut supplies to major Asian buyers, and that even if they do, ... The Brazilian government has since shut down three major plants and suspended the export licenses for 21 meat packing plants as well. According to police, the health inspectors involved were bribed to certify meat no longer fit for consumption, while additives were used to mask problems in the produce. (more...)

Albuquerque airport spokesman Dan Jiron said the Boeing 737-800 was just over 3km from landing when the captain declared a medical emergency. Paramedics performed CPR on Mr Grubbs for nearly 40 minutes before he was pronounced dead. Mr Grubbs, who was based in Dallas, was a Boeing 737 pilot who joined American in 2010 from Envoy, Parker said. "Our team is fully focused on taking care of Mike's family at this time". (more...)

Gulf carriers are now offering loaner laptops and iPads to travelers on US -bound flights - the latest workaround to a new USA policy banning large electronics on select flights from the Middle East and Africa.
