Uber has paused its efforts to test self-driving cars after a crash in Arizona on Saturday. Uber had kicked off its self-driving program in Arizona some time last month but before this crash, there were already several issues reported on the service. (more...)

(NASDAQ:AMZN) to reach millions of customers in the Middle East. Souq.com won a major vote of confidence previous year and emerged as the highest-valued internet company in the region when it secured $275 million in funding from global investors to support its growth. Expectations for future economic conditions jumped 9.9 points to 113.8. Analysts had expected the index to fall to 114.0 in February. The percentage saying business conditions are "good" increased from 28.3 percent to 32.2 percent, while those saying business conditions are "bad" decreased from 13.4 percent to 12.9 percent. Vodafone inks $23bn deal in India price war

In the initial phase, Vodafone owns the major stake in the combined entity with 45.1 percent stake after which it will transfer 4.9 percent stake to Aditya Birla Group in exchange to Rs 3874 crores to complete the deal. The appointment of a chief executive officer and a chief operating officer would require the approval of both companies, which would get the right to nominate three board members each. (more...)

The new £1 coin has been dubbed the most secure coin in the world. People have been urged to return their old round pounds before they eventually lose their legal tender status. Towards the back end of previous year, we were able to get sample coins to start the reprogramming process. As detailed by MoneySavingExpert.com, 85 per cent of vending machines in the United Kingdom will be able to use the coin; Tesco has also said it will keep trolleys unlocked until they are fitted with new locks. Those drivers were fined in November, and the case against Uber will come to court by the end of April. It will be interesting to see if the Danish taxi apps such as Drivr can capitalise on the new rules. (more...)

Even though fewer people are taking part in Earth Hour, overall energy usage is going down. BC Hydro's last recorded percentage of energy saved in Northern BC was 4% back in 2012, while the entire province collectively saved 2%. (more...)

Thousands of residents in Queensland, in northeastern Australia , have been ordered to leave their homes as severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie approaches, bringing with it powerful winds and heavy rain. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said assessing damage was hard because communities had been cut off from power and phone reception. Canada's oil sands are located in a sub-artic boreal forest and require extensive use of energy to extract them. "We have already approved a couple of other very, very big ones which we'll be announcing soon, in order to help put Americans back to work, grow our economy and rebuild our nation", he said. Crude oil accounted for almost 30 percent of Russia's total exports in January, up from 25 per cent in the same period past year, Rosstat data showed.
