Google is now hiring more virtual reality specialists, a sign that is trying to catch up with Facebook in a still-nascent field that could transform computing. Facebook's success in drawing large crowds has endeared it to marketers and advertisers, and for good reason. Total revenue rose 52% to $5.84bn from $3.85bn a year earlier, with ad revenue jumping 57% to $5.64bn in the holiday shopping period, when spending on advertising typically increases. In a soon-to-be serious competition to video sharing website YouTube, the social networking website Facebook has announced that it recently hit 100 million hours of daily video watch-time in a day. Although Facebook shares were down 3 percent during regular trading, closing at $94.45, the company's earnings results, announced after the close of trading, buoyed its stock price after hours. California-based Facebook has been relentlessly innovating to keep its social network tuned to Internet-age lifestyles. Apple shares have fallen 16% since the end of October, closing Tuesday at $99.99. A year ago in Q1 Apple managed a record-breaking quarterly profit of $18 on $74.60 revenue, and beating that figure keeps the company fixed to the tech throne. (more...)

However, the company still boasts an impressive profit of $18,4-billion. When you visit the website, it'll load for a moment and then crash Safari or force a reboot of your iPhone, sending you back to the home screen with everything else intact. This feature sends what you type in the URL bar to Apple's servers, returning with autocomplete search results and Top Site suggestions. While the link is most likely going to come from a friend trying to prank you, the website, crashsafari.com, does exactly what it says it will: crash the Safari browser. It can cause other browsers to crash as well, including Chrome , Mozilla Firefox and Opera, among others. The prank went viral on Twitter on Monday morning, and many users panicked that their iPhones were vulnerable to attack after rebooting. (more...)

Apple iPhone sales rose by just 300,000 units from Q1 2015 to 74.779 million in the quarter, with revenue rising marginally to $51.635 billion (£36.11 billion ). Samsung led the tally with 24 per cent share, followed by Micromax (16.7 per cent), Intex (10.8 per cent), Lenovo Group - Lenovo and Motorola (9.5 per cent) and Lava (4.7 per cent). (more...)

It sold a record 74.8 million iPhones, but only fractionally higher than the 74.5 million in the same period previous year and the slowest growth since the iconic handsets were introduced in 2007. Apple relies on the iPhone for two-thirds of its revenue and a similar share of profit. According to analysts, the record revenue is a result of growth in the company's services, against the slowdown in sales of its devices. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are still among Apple's most successful devices, bringing in over $70 billion in revenue, but the growth of iPhone sales is no longer as steep as it was a year ago. A temporary workaround is to disable "Include search engine suggestions" , but a permanent fix most likely has to come from Apple itself. The bug does not affect all iOS and OS X users. Some links will point you to CrashChrome.com instead of CrashSafari, which will cause Chrome to crash on any device you use (including Android ), but it won't cause a reboot. (more...)

Google has been granted a patent for a "delivery receptacle" that uses infrared beacons to securely transport packages via drone. According to the company, Project Wing drone deliveries are expected to begin at some point in 2017. may hold back the company's plans. During the Q1 2016 fiscal quarter, the company smashed its revenue and earnings records for a single quarter, bringing in $75.9 billion in revenue, resulting in profits of $18.4 billion . Looking at the big picture, the iPhone lineup performed particularly well, especially because these figures compare the 6s (which is an update to the core model) with the 6 (which was a completely new generation, so sales were obviously higher).
