Since the beginning of August, the inspection and quarantine bureau of the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport has carried out checks on 74 passengers with symptoms from Zika-hit countries or regions. Malaysia is bracing for more Zika cases, officials said on Sunday, after detecting the first locally infected patient, which could further stretch a health system struggling with dengue, another mosquito-borne virus that can be fatal. The lawsuit filed today alleges that Muddy Waters, MedSec and the other defendants intentionally disseminated false and misleading information in order to lower the value of St. Muddy Waters and MedSec did not immediately respond to ISMG's request for comment on the lawsuit. Shares of the cardiac device maker retreated by more than 10% during their August 25 trading session, tumbling as low as $73.40 a piece after Muddy Waters' launched its initial attack against the company. To determine the effects of Zika infection on the eye, Washington University scientists infected adult mice and found live virus in the eyes seven days later. Consequently, infections sometimes persist in the eye after they have been cleared from the rest of the body, the study said. Other blood-borne viruses such as herpes simplex virus have been transmitted accidentally through corneal transplants. (more...)

Like her mother before her, Berol Dewdney is an early childhood educator who now teaches in Baltimore, Maryland. Altogether, she created seventeen Llama Llama books. "It was just so fun to say out loud". News of Dewdney's death created a flood of posts on social media in her honor. A Netflix series based on the books is due for release next year. (more...)

As many had expected, the new phones will use Apple's Lightning connector for audio, but they can also be used with adaptors for standard 3.5-millimeter headphone jacks for users with older headphones or earbuds. In adults, Zika can cause conjunctivitis - redness and itchiness of the eyes. There are, however, about 70 cases of Zika in Georgia that are related to travel in South and Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. The researchers now are planning complementary studies in human patients infected with the virus. The immune system is less active in the eye in order to avoid accidental damage to sensitive tissues responsible for vision when the body is fighting an infection. (more...)

Public Policy Polling found Rubio with 40 percent support, compared to 37 percent for Murphy. One proposal stalled last month over language excluding funds for Planned Parenthood in Puerto Rico, causing Democrats and Republicans to point fingers at each other - including Murphy and Rubio. With mounting evidence that sexual transmission of Zika virus is more common than previously assumed, the World Health Organization extended the recommended period from eight weeks to six months. On Tuesday, the family spoke with WPEC, saying they wanted to raise awareness of Hawk's condition and to ask for prayers.
