NMA's medical director, Steinar Madsen, said that along with 13 deaths, nine cases of serious side-effects and seven cases of less serious side effects were found. It promised that there would be "a significant increase" in shipments in March, and the European Commission said all vaccines ordered by the bloc for the first quarter would be delivered on time. There are now 7,132 people under active public health monitoring because of exposures to known cases of the coronavirus, and 75,914 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Earlier in the day, Dix had warned that expected delays in Pfizer deliveries would impact how soon some British Columbians received their shots in the weeks ahead. (more...)

Hsiu-Li Wang is clarifying how hospitalization data is reported on Public Health's information dashboard. Included in the 51 deaths were 27 individuals living in long-term care homes. The vaccines approved for use requires two doses a few weeks apart. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 162.2 cases per 100,000 people from January 5 to January 11, which is an increase of 9.2 per cent compared to December 30 to January 5 when the average weekly incidence rate was 148.5 cases per 100,000 ... In a briefing with reporters today, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry disclosed that there have been four confirmed cases of the highly contagious United Kingdom variant. The Brookhaven Healthcare Group runs for other nursing homes. 12 cases have reportedly been detect among residents, with a number of staff also testing positive. (more...)
