Beijing vaccinates over 73000 with Covid-19 jabs within days

A dry run for vaccination against Covid-19 would be held at six places in the state capital on Saturday, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said in the state's daily health bulletin. He further informed that after all doses of the vaccine are administered, a QR-code based certificate will also be sent to the mobile number of the beneficiary and recommended that after vaccination, patients should take rest for at least 30 minutes. The new cases include 917 in Toronto, 581 in Peel Region, 389 in York Region, 246 in Windsor-Essex, 131 in Ottawa, 126 in Waterloo Region and 122 in Durham Region. Quebec , another populous province in the country, issued its first COVID-19 update of the new year on Sunday. Both students and parents are getting ready for the return of school on Monday, as classrooms in Ontario will remain empty for a little bit longer. (more...)

The first patient in the United Kingdom has received the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine. Health Secretary Matt Hancock told BBC radio on Monday: "I hope we will get through this hard time in the next few weeks and months". Cuong also said Vietnam would be eligible to buy vaccines from the World Health Organization's COVAX programme to cover 16%, or 15.6 million of its nearly 98 million population, but said more information would be available in the first quarter. We have previously reported the apparently low share for North Wales - however Welsh Government say every health board in Wales will receive their allocation in proportion to the size of its priority population and ability to deliver, as outlined by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation's prioritisation list. While the Congress has been persistent in its attack on the Government with Rahul Gandhi leading a delegation to President Kovind and submitting a memorandum with two crore signatures to him against the farm laws, many Congress leaders were detained and not allowed to go. A non-profit that represents health-care professionals and patients called Friday for military intervention to help control outbreaks of COVID-19 in Ontario's long-term care homes . Of those deaths 95 deaths, 37 were residents in long-term care homes. The number of Ontarians who are in hospital with COVID-19 - another key indicator of the threat posed by the virus - was 1,003, the province reported Saturday . (more...)

It took 292 days for the U.S. to cross the first 10 million mark, and just 54 more days to double it, according to CNN. The man is in his early 20s, recovering in isolation, and has no recent travel history, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said, meaning he was infected by another Colorado resident who has contracted the variant.
