The CDC in particular cautioned pregnant women not to travel to those areas as Zika has been linked to serious birth defects. There is no vaccine to block the Zika virus and no medicine to treat it. For example the CDC explained that 12 people in the USA were seen to have the Zika virus in 2015 and 2016, but they were only travellers who got it from other countries. (more...)

Chipotle subsequently closed 43 restaurants in the two states after health officials discovered most of the people sickened by the E. coli outbreak had eaten at the chain's restaurants. The company's sales slid 30 percent and its stock price plummeted almost 40 percent. The health organization also advised that women of childbearing age take measures to avoid mosquito bites, which in addition to Zika, can also transmit diseases such as dengue and chikungunya . In theory, the Zika virus could be spread through blood transfusion, but as yet there are no documented cases, the CDC said.
