Moderna Inc .'s vaccine is safe and effective for preventing COVID-19, USA regulators said, clearing the way for a second shot to quickly gain emergency authorization and add to the country's sprawling immunization effort. Canada expects to receive 4 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and 2 million of the Moderna vaccine by the end of March 2021. Pfizer's first shots were given in Ontario and Quebec on Monday. Pfizer's initial shipment arrived in Canada on Sunday. The first COVID-19 vaccine injections in Canada were administered in Toronto and Quebec City within half an hour of each other on Monday. The board said the schools will reopen to in-class learning on January 4. As of Friday, the TDSB said there were 444 active student cases of coronavirus and 88 active staff cases in its schools with more than 660 resolved cases. Fraser Health Authority (FH) announced on December 6 that eight people at the mink farm tested positive for the virus. The U.S. produces more than 3 million mink pelts each year. "The sequence of the viral genome obtained from the wild mink sample at NVSL [National Veterinary Services Laboratories] was indistinguishable from those obtained from the farmed mink", the advisory added.
