Local resident Ruby Heard, a three-year breast cancer survivor, strives to spread awareness of the disease to ensure women get regular breast exams. Basically Breast cancer can influence both men and women but although it's most common in women who are 50 years old or older. VRMC offers high-risk screening for different cancers that include genetic testing for breast, ovarian, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, and endometrial cancers, as well as melanoma. (more...)

Gilead's remdesivir quickly emerged as one of the most promising experimental treatments for Covid-19, and FDA earlier this year issued an emergency use authorization allowing providers to use the drug to treat patients with severe cases of the disease. York region is also reporting 76 new cases. This is followed by the 30-39 age group with 967 active cases and the under 20 with 810 active cases. A fifth unrelated case was also reported. The Toronto District School Board updates its information on current COVID-19 cases throughout the day on its website . There have been 5,365 lab-confirmed cases, and 4,132 of those are resolved. This brings the province's total number of case to 57,681. A fifth unrelated case was also reported. These restrictions are being implemented in Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel Region. Hospitalizations rose by 11 to 444, and six more people were in intensive care, for a total of 73. The news comes just over a week after provincial officials warned that new case counts would surge past 1,000 in the early part of October. (more...)

The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,840 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 166,102. The university also reports 24 of their students are self-isolating on campus, with 17 confirmed cases using the self-isolation beds on campus, and seven others are presumed positive or awaiting test results. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was released from Morristown Medical Center on Saturday after testing positive for the coronavirus one week ago. Christie announced last Saturday that he had tested positive for COVID-19, two days after President Trump tested positive for the virus. The Franklin County Elections Board said 49,669 voters received incorrect ballots out of 237,498 that were mailed. Nine deaths were reported in the state. Weekly case counts have been increasing since late August, from 149 cases in the seven days ending Aug. 28. To date, 211 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in Montana. Of the county's 1,407 total cases, 1,099 people have recovered or are recovering, 101 were hospitalized at some point during their illness, and 20 have died. (more...)
