Previously, the US, Australia, Taiwan, and South Korea all warned their pregnant citizens not to travel to Singapore. A member of her household had tested positive for Zika infection, said the health agencies. "Over time, we expect Zika cases to to emerge from more areas", Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said in the statement. A spokesman for the Singapore Grand Prix said the Formula One night race will go on as scheduled from Sept.16-18. (more...)

But now, Theranos has voluntarily withdrawn its request for the FDA's emergency use authorisation that would have sped the Zika test to market, the Journal reports . The controversial Silicon Valley firm, which has been sanctioned by US health regulators for failures to run its laboratories up to standard, said on Aug 1 that it had developed a test for the Zika virus and had submitted it to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The team used an imaging machine to study the brains of the dogs, and probably the most hard part of the research was the training of the dogs to remain motionless during the process. Of course the biggest response in the dogs' brains' reward centers came from praise words said in a praising tone. People suffering from glaucoma who find eye drops painful or inconvenient may one day have another option at their disposal: contact lenses that dispense their medication more precisely. The study found the contacts with lower doses of latanoprost reduced eye pressure as much as the eye drop version of the medication. Scientists have tried to make drug-dispensing contact lenses before, but have struggled to control the rate at which the medicine is released. (more...)

Health authorities confirmed 44 total infections in Virginia , where the outbreak first appeared, and additional infections in Maryland (four), West Virginia (four), North Carolina (1), OR (1) and Wisconsin (1). More than half of those infected reportedly were hospitalized after the outbreak. The department said at the time that genetic tests showed the illnesses to be caused by a strain of hepatitis A virus associated with past outbreaks resulting from strawberries imported from Egypt. Bimbo Bakeries, which has a bakery in Breinigsville, on Wednesday announced a recall of some Entenmann's brownies and muffins because tiny pieces of plastic were found in products made at its IL bakery. All the items were brought to stores in 30 states within the last two weeks. All of the recalled products are being removed from store shelves. As many as 26 new locally transmitted Zika virus cases have been confirmed in Singapore, authorities said on Tuesday.
