MIAMI, Florida- The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County is under a mosquito-borne illness alert, following the confirmation of seven additional human cases of West Nile virus infection in the county. There is no specific treatment for the disease and no vaccine to prevent infection, according to the public health department. In a Sun Sentinel report, doctors warned that West Nile and Dengue symptoms could be similar in its early stages. (more...)

Indian drugmaker Biological E. Ltd will begin making a drug substance used in Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine candidate that is in early to mid-stage trials, the companies said on Thursday. The new cases were the result of about 7,750 tests, equivalent to a one per cent positive rate. A total of 793,114 tests have been administered to 647,281 - just over 1/8th of Alberta's population. August 8, 1,095 active cases. "However it can help us track the spread of the virus in Alberta, which aids our public health response".
