Klamath County reports second death attributed to COVID-19

The current average of nine cases per day is one of the lowest averages the county has seen since early July. Lewis County reported 12 people tested positive for the disease on Thursday. Minnesota saw a rise in new COVID-19 cases. In total, 109 deaths have been linked to COVID-19 in the state. This week's death was a female resident in her 80s, health department spokesperson George Diepenbrock said. (more...)

Australia's Queensland shuts state border to stem COVID-19 second wave

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is shutting the state's border with NSW but horses from NSW will still be allowed to race in Queensland. Queensland's border closures will be reviewed at the end of August. The latest border incident led to calls from Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington for mandatory maximum penalties for Queenslanders who lie about being in COVID-19 hot spots. (more...)

Mike DeWine said that he's feeling "fine" after testing positive for COVID-19 this morning ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to Ohio . Businesses react to new border ban

The Queensland Government has indicated it will provide exemptions for border communities but it is yet to clarify the boundary of that exemption. Queensland had previously barred people who had been in Victoria from entering the state. Returning Queenslanders will enter 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine at their own cost. The top doctor stated that there's been a "great deal" of focus recently on mask-wearing, but she stressed that they only make up "one part" of the public health approach to protect schools from COVID-19. Additional safety measures include the frequent sanitization of high-touch areas and a recommendation to wear a non-medical mask or face covering. The 73-year-old governor has no symptoms, however, and plans to quarantine for 14 days at his home. Lt. Gov. Jon Husted also took a COVID-19 test and tested negative. It's not clear yet if that briefing will still happen. DeWine is the second US governor to test positive for the coronavirus, after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt announced his illness in July. (more...)

An outbreak was declared by the authority on Haida Gwaii on July 24. 47 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 3,881. waters. To see a list of B.C. He said the district will watch local COVID case data and once there has been a decline in positive cases in the community for two weeks, the district will make a decision to move to the next phase. Amy Acton, left government this week. DeWine had postponed his usual Thursday press briefing to Friday in order to meet Trump. DeWine held one of those briefings Tuesday but no other public events had been announced for this week besides his meeting with Trump. (more...)
