Study authors said current data show the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in heart tissue doesn't necessarily cause an inflammatory reaction consistent with clinical myocarditis (an inflammation of the heart muscle). When the infection clears, the patient can regain the sense of smell. One of the officials at World Health Organization said that this had been called the "second wave" of infections. In this initial sweep, Albert Amran, a medical student at the University of Texas Health Science Center, observed that flu shots were correlated with a lower incidence of the disease. People with genes that increase Alzheimer's risk didn't have as much of a vaccine-related reduction. Considering the many benefits of the flu shot, it may be more than worth it to get it if you are at high risk of the infection. (more...)
