In the current study, Maciej Boni and his colleagues analysed the evolutionary history of SARS-CoV-2 using genomic data on sarbecoviruses - the subgenus to which SARS-CoV-2 belongs. Previously, this fact had been used to incriminate pangolins as the intermediary host which acted as a stepping stone in allowing the virus to hop from bats to humans. (more...)

Symptoms of Dengue will appear within 14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. Avoid areas where mosquitoes are prevalent. The health unit also reminded residents that these positive mosquito pools are an indicator that the virus continues to exist in our community. (more...)

A total of 3,523 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in B.C. and 3,076 people have recovered. The number of new cases on Tuesday is a decrease from the average of 30 cases a day the province was seeing last week. Just nine COVID-19 patients are in hospital - the lowest reported number since March 17, with three of them in intensive care. There are now two cases linked to the Thai Rock at Potts Point after a diner who visited the restaurant on July 17 tested positive last week. "We immediately informed NSW Health yesterday once a staff member received a positive test result and chose to close the restaurant for two weeks to undergo a deep cleaning", a spokesperson for the restaurant said today in a statement after Broadsheet reached out. The vaccine being taken forward, BNT162b2, encodes an optimized version of the whole spike protein, which should lead to "more consistent responses across diverse populations and in older adults", Pfizer said in a statement . The ministry has confirmed the cat and the two humans had all subsequently recovered and that there was no further transmission to anyone else in their household. Responding to the news, BVA President Daniella Dos Santos said: "While pet owners may be anxious by this news, we'd like to emphasise that there continues to be no evidence that infected pets can pass Covid-19 to their owners". Elsewhere in the province, the Interior Health region has seen 353 cases while the Northern Health region has reported 80 cases. There are 60 British Columbians who reside outside of Canada with COVID-19. (more...)

Authorities say a pet cat believed to have caught the virus from its owners showed mild symptoms, including shortness of breath and a nasal discharge, but has now made a full recovery, the Guardian reports . The case has been reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health in line with worldwide agreements. There have been a very small number of confirmed cases in pets in other countries in Europe, North America and Asia. (more...)
