The virus is now spreading fastest in Latin America. "Certainly 288 new cases today is a pretty ugly number", Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said. "When they are worn very broadly across a population where people can't distance that 1.5 metres, then they can make a difference, they reduce transmission by up to two-thirds", he said. (more...)

New cases of the unidentified pneumonia have been increasing significantly since mid-June across the country, said the embassy, adding that in some places, authorities are reporting hundreds of new cases a day. However, herd immunity doesn't work against every illness and isn't a good enough alternative to getting vaccinated, Healthline reported. Alberta reported 130 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 607. Of those, 572 cases were active, 7,532 people had recovered and 155 had died. Six of those people are in intensive care. While the emergency room remained open as of early Monday afternoon, the hospital is now closed to new admissions and transfers for surgical and medicine patients. (more...)

Time reports that World Health Organization officials said during a press conference on Tuesday, July 7 that airborne transmission could not be ruled out in closed, crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, but they will continue to research this as it is not definite.
