San Bernardino County officials said Friday that local hospitals were beginning to reach "surge capacity" because of new COVID-19 cases , meaning they were getting close to hitting their licensed limits on available beds. World Health Organization chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said during Friday's briefing that "the only way to prevent further spread and transmission" of the coronavirus would be to have an effective and safe vaccine. "The best bet we have really if we are going to end it.is to have a vaccine as soon as possible".
