Citing reports of heart complications, the FDA said the drugs' unproven benefits "do not outweigh the known and potential risks". The drugs were being used for patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and in clinical trials. The document added that clinical trials studying HCQ and CQ to see if the drugs can benefit patients with COVID-19 will continue.
