Although Kudlow acknowledged Friday he is "not the health expert" within the administration, he said he had spoken with top public health officials "at some length" Thursday evening. It's really flat, and as for the dead, it's the same, it's really lower than that, it's like zero to half a percent. Kudlow's remarks come as cases of the virus surge after Memorial Day weekend in states that did not previously experience high infection rates and lockdowns continue easing. (more...)

The American biotech company, touted as the frontrunner in the race for developing a vaccine for the deadly disease, says it has made all the arrangements as required by the FDA and will start the study next month. AZN recently signed deals in the United Kingdom, U.S. and with CEPI and Gavi the Vaccine Alliance to supply 700M doses in addition to a deal with the Serum Institute of India to supply IB doses to low- and middle-income countries. The data shows that patients in their 30s account for 17% of all COVID-19 cases, patients in their 40s account for 20% and patients in their 50s account for 18% of the cases. As of midnight Thursday there have been 1,424 confirmed tests performed on residents; 246 positive cases; two related deaths; 187 recoveries; and 1,161 negative results. (more...)

The province announced changes to the food and liquor service sector Friday in response to small clusters of new COVID-19 cases in businesses. There is now a total of 86 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in hospital. Lehigh and Northampton counties have been through one week in the yellow phase, and while many have been enjoying outdoor dining and the limited activities that come with the middle phase, social distancing and other coronavirus prevention tactics are still vital. On Wednesday the United Nations health agency scrambled to explain seemingly contradictory comments it has made in recent days about the two related issues. Jha cited a May Swiss study that indicated that between 40 and 60% of all coronavirus cases originated from people when they didn't have symptoms at the time of the spread. (more...)

To date, 604 cases across the province have an unknown exposure. Since the middle of March, Alberta Health Services has completed 317,402 tests for COVID-19. Thirty-three people were in hospital as of Thursday, with six of those in intensive care. Of the province's 7,276 cases, there are 6,754 people who have recovered from the virus. (more...)
