Patients with high blood pressure are at an increased risk of dying from COVID-19, particularly if they are not taking any medication to control the condition, a new study involving Irish researchers has found. The researchers point out that it is too early to make clinical recommendations based on what they have observed in the hospital, and that further randomized controlled clinical trials are needed to investigate further. At the daily press briefing, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced that from June 15, face coverings will be mandatory for people on public transport in England. He said new research suggested fabric masks should consist of "at least three layers of different material" in order to be effective. The team collaborated with a team in China and have analysed data from 2,866 patients with Covid-19, who were admitted to Huo Shen Shan hospital in Wuhan, China, between 5 February and 15 March 2020. Of the patients, which included eight men and six women, 50 percent did not know that they had the coronavirus while the rest were already being treated for symptoms of the disease. (more...)

"After high-risk or moderate-risk exposure to COVID-19, HCQ did not prevent illness compatible with COVID-19, or confirmed infection when used as postexposure prophylaxis within four days after exposure", the scientists concluded in the study. The Minnesota Department of Health says there were 372 new confirmed cases Tuesday with three of them in Benton County and seven of the in Stearns County. In Miami County, there have been 362 positive cases with 52 hospitalizations. In Darke County, 184 positive cases have been recorded with 20 hospitalizations. (more...)
