Eli Lilly and Co said its potential treatment, known as LY-CoV555, is modeled after the antibodies found in the plasma of people who have recovered from the virus. Lilly's treatment is an antibody directed against the spike-shaped protein structures of the virus and is created to block it from locking on to human cells, thus neutralizing the virus. (more...)

Urbantke said the area hotels involved have already successfully overseen 14-day quarantine protocols and have previously isolated shelter residents, front line workers, and returning travelers. Five of the workers are now hospitalized, while approximately 25 others in isolation are showing symptoms. According to the state Department of Health, 2,167,831 New Yorkers have been tested for COVID-19, with 373,040 testing positive for the virus as of Tuesday , June 2. 15 of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 have since recovered or completed their isolation protocol, officials say. Of the 375 ventilators available, 168 were in use, including 49 for COVID-19 patients. (more...)

Gilead's shares fell 4% after the results were published. The investigational antiviral drug will likely be administered in the treatment of critically ill novel coronavirus patients. "Today's results showed that when treating moderate disease, a five-day course of remdesivir led to greater clinical improvement than standard of care, adding further evidence of remdesivir's benefit to previously released study results", Merdad Parsey, chief medical officer of Gilead Sciences, said in the ... The clinical trial looked at hospitalized COVID-19 patients who had more moderate disease, with pneumonia, but who didn't have reduced oxygen levels at the beginning of the study. There were no deaths among patients on five days of the drug, two among those on 10 days, and four among patients getting standard care alone.
