This convalescent plasma is being evaluated as treatment for patients with serious or immediately life-threatening COVID-19 infections, or those judged by a healthcare provider to be at high risk of progression to severe or life-threatening disease. Once the World Health Organization announced, on January 14, that coronavirus was spreading from person-to-person in China, it became likely that it would only be a matter of time before it made its way with travelers to other parts of the world. Roche meanwhile says it is close to completing the target enrolment of 450 subjects in its phase 3 trial of Actemra in severe COVID-19, and results should be available in the summer. The pharmaceutical corporation Roche has a hope that by combining the two in a global study of 450 hospitalised patients worldwide, it will be able to offer doctors a one-two punch against the disease that has so far stricken 5.8 million people and killed almost 360,000. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said on Tuesday it launched an investigation after two suspected cases of MIS-C involving an 11-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl were reported on Monday. Teresa Everson said everyone needs to be wearing masks in public and following social distancing recommendations to avoid being the cause of infection and illness in others. (more...)

Tests are sent to a third-party lab for processing, with results available in about three days. On Tuesday, Whitmer signed an executive order expanding qualifications for who can receive a COVID-19 test without a prescription and who can approve for a test to be administered. (more...)
