Coronavirus transmissible between domestic cats, Japan-US study shows

New research published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Wednesday suggests that cats may be "silent intermediate hosts" of COVID-19, because they may not show symptoms that would be recognised by their owners. As much as possible, pets belonging to people infected with SARS-CoV-2 should be kept indoors and contact with those pets should be avoided. The virus was not lethal and none of the cats showed signs of illness. (more...)

The US Food and Drug Administration had on 1 May granted remdesivir, an investigational antiviral therapy developed by Gilead, the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to treat Covid-19, helping facilitate broader use of the intravenous injection to treat hospitalized patients with severe Covid-19 disease. Roche said late on Wednesday it was in talks with the National Health Service and the United Kingdom government about a phased roll-out of antibody test kits as soon as possible and would be able to provide hundreds of thousands of the test kits per week. If a driver or passenger removes their mask during the ride, Uber asks that the other give them less than five stars, and has added lack of face mask as an option when the app asks why they did not receive a ideal rating. Jubilant Life Sciences on Tuesday said it entered into a non-exclusive licensing agreement with US-based Gilead Sciences to make and sell the latter's anti-viral drug Remdesivir in 127 countries, including India. EMA says the recommendation is based on the preliminary results from a United States study of remdesivir run by the National Institutes of Health that found patients treated with remdesivir had a 31% shorter time to recovery than patients taking a placebo.
