HB2 requires that transgender individuals use public restrooms and similar facilities based on their anatomy and not their gender identity. The Department of Justice has also filed a lawsuit. In his ruling Friday, Schroeder wrote that the three plaintiffs in the lawsuit "are likely to succeed" in their arguments that HB2 violates Title IX, a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender in educational institutions. It's a major expansion from a February 16 advisory that limited such screening to areas with active Zika virus transmission. Aedes mosquitoes carry the virus, and it can also be transmitted sexually. More than 40 cases of mosquito-transmitted infection have been reported in South Florida. It can cause a mild illness, with fever, rash and joint pain. (more...)

The cheaper generic was rejected by the FDA less than six months ago, which kept the EpiPen one of very few options for severe allergy sufferers, incentivizing Mylan to keep prices high. I can afford my annual EpiPen refill, and my allergy attacks are rare. Mylan NV has promised to reduce the costs that some patients pay for the treatment by "doubling eligibility" for its EpiPen patient assistance programme, which subsidises the cost of the drugs for low-income patients. The first funeral for one of the earthquake's victims was held on Friday, for the son of a state official who died in Amatrice. In July 2016, the first cases of local or non-travel related transmission of Zika virus in the continental US were reported in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Alternatively, an FDA-approved pathogen-reduction device may be used for plasma and certain platelet products.
