Since January, the provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix have been conducting regular briefings on COVID-19 in B.C., with briefings moving to a almost daily schedule in late February. "We are all making a difference and we are getting through this". Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there are 670 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), 630 in Fraser Health, 94 on Vancouver Island, 149 in Interior Health and 32 in Northern Health. These are first vaccines in the world cleared for clinical trials, claimed the Global Times, a daily newspaper while quoting the Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. The chimp vaccine was one of three Oxford projects that have received $A40 million so far. Quebec is the hardest hit province, reporting more than half of Canada's COVID-19 cases and fatalities with over 15,857 cases, including 630 deaths. The Quebec coroner's office announced Sunday it will investigate the deaths of dozens of seniors at a private long-term care facility west of Montreal linked to what Premier Francois Legault has described as a possible case of "gross negligence". Due to the fact care home deaths occur outside hospital settings, they have not been included in Northern Ireland's daily coronavirus-related death toll. I understand that the current restrictions are tough, especially during a bank holiday weekend when in normal circumstances most of us would have met up with family and friends but I ask that the public continue to work with us and follow the guidelines that are in place. Another three people have died from infection with the novel coronavirus, for a total of 78 so far. The B.C. Centre for Disease Control is reporting two additional COVID-19 deaths in the province in the past 24 hours. The first death in the Interior Health region was reported Wednesday, a man in his 60s who Henry said was in recovery at home. However, there are still 21 ongoing outbreaks in the Fraser and Vancouver-Coastal health regions, where there are now 265 residents and workers ... (more...)

Researchers were preparing to start testing it in animals. Two other vaccines are being tested in humans by USA drug makers Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc . Earlier this month, Australia's science agency Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) said it has begun trials on ferrets to produce a vaccine against the virus.
