While additional cases and deaths due to COVID-19 were announced on Sunday in Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's press conference, the governor also announced that it was the lowest total of deaths in six days in the state. Currently, COVID-19 convalescent plasma is regulated as an investigational product in the US, and hospitals and medical facilities need to collect the plasma from an FDA-registered blood establishment. The plasma will be collected and processed by the Welsh Blood Service. Convalescent Plasma therapy is a process in which blood plasma from a patient who has recovered from COVID-19 is transfused into a critically ill patient so that the specific antibodies present in the blood of the recovered ... On Sunday, Hackensack University Medical Center announced it received approval from the federal government to begin recruiting recovered and recovering coronavirus patients to test for antibodies in their plasma. The research found that plasma infused in 10 adult patients with severe symptoms in Wuhan, China was well-tolerated and could significantly increase or maintain neutralizing antibodies at a high level and patients showed improvement in their symptoms. The government is set to launch a portal that will guide users of hydroxychloroquine - one of the drugs being tried for treating Covid-19 patients - to the nearest pharmacy that has it in stock, people in the know told ET. In the hydroxychloroquine treatment group patients will be randomly assigned to receive hydroxychloroquine 400 mg twice daily for 2 doses on day 1 and then 200 mg twice daily for the subsequent 8 doses on days 2 to 5 or placebo twice daily for 5 days.
