Coronavirus death toll passes 1,500 in mainland China

The World Health Organization ( WHO ) said that China is running more than 80 trials to find treatment for the COVID-19. Between 31 December 2019 and 14 February 2020, a total of 49,070 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, though majority of the cases continue to be reported from China (99%). CDC Confirms a Single Coronavirus Case in San Antonio

The patient in question lives in Texas and was also under quarantine after arriving back in the US on February 7. For more information about the virus outbreak and current efforts to contain it, visit the CDC's website here. All 50 states received testing kits from the CDC but a problem with the kits was discovered by multiple state labs, delaying the use of the kits, which enable testing samples away from the CDC's Atlanta headquarters. Egypt reported its first case of the coronavirus on Friday, becoming the first country in the African continent to confirm a case, and the second in the Middle East region, after the United Arab Emirates diagnosed its first cases late last month. Two staff from Lewisham Hospital in south London are now in isolation at home after coming into contact with the woman. As a result of her walking straight into the A&E, rather than going to the ambulance bay to be met by trained doctors and nurses in hazmat suits, some staff may have been been exposed to a risk of infection.
