Minnesota Reports 8th Flu Death of Season

The total number of flu-related deaths in Nebraska has climbed to five, and the number of positive influenza tests spiked to almost 6,000, according to the latest data released by the State of Nebraska. "Hopefully it won't, but if it continues to go straight up, this could really be a bad year". Minnesota has reported another flu death. Even though the flu season is well underway, the worst could still be ahead, so the CDC advises everyone older than 6 months to get a flu shot. (more...)

The tuberculosis vaccine, often called BCG for Bacille Calmette-Guérin after the French scientists who developed it, is made out of a reside, weakened type of the tuberculosis microorganism present in cattle. Monkeys in the top row received skin-deep TB vaccines , while monkeys in the bottom row received shots straight into the bloodstream. Reuters reported on Tuesday that drugmakers including Pfizer , GlaxoSmithKline , and Sanofi were planning to increase prices on more than 200 drugs in the United States on January 1. The company expects the higher list prices to be offset by higher rebates and discounts to payers and pharma middlemen. Pfizer's group of drugs receiving an increase in price includes cancer treatment, Ibrance, and rheumatoid arthritis drug Xeljanz. (more...)

Researchers at New York University showed that radiologists who teamed up with an AI machine learning platform are able to identify breast cancer with about 90 percent accuracy. That way, they could compare the system's readings with the radiologists' diagnosis. When they disagree, a third radiologist is consulted. Scans were only sent to a second reviewer if there was a disagreement between the first reader and the AI. (more...)

He said he had felt symptoms for weeks that he "should have paid more attention to", including being especially worn out after long campaign days, having trouble sleeping and sometimes feeling a "little unsteady" at the podium while speaking at events.
